A stop for the night
by Michael Cameron
Lewis County is part of the U.S. state of Washington. The county's population is around 75,000. The county seat is Chehalis, and its largest city is Centralia. The county was created as Vancouver County on December 19, 1845, by the Provisional Government of Oregon, named for George Vancouver.
In 1849, the county name was changed, to honor Meriwether Lewis. At the time, the county included all U.S. lands north of the Cowlitz River, including much of the Puget Sound region and British Columbia.
This was our first ever night in an RV and I booked a camp site well before leaving the U.K. Most other nights we intended to freewheel and book as we travelled, but I wanted to be sure we had a spot on night one.
So we left Seattle and drove towards the campsite, driving through a beautiful secluded forest. Eventually seeing the signpost for our destination. There were roughly 40 spots to park an R.V. and lucky for us there were 40 spots available! It was deserted, checking we had the right place we looked around, eventually spotting nailed to a tree a paper notice "Reserved for Cameron". We picked out a better spot and moved the sign. An hour or so later we were joined by one other "camper" in a pick-up. He seemed friendly enough, but had a thick hillbilly like accent and although he was speaking english, i could only understand about every 10th word. We locked our doors! All went well though, and by next morning we were alone again, readying to move on ourselves.
Pretty sure we took a wrong turn somewhere, eventually driving off pavement, thankfully we got through that. The Mountain in the background to some of the photographs is Mount Adams
