A Helping Hand
by Michael Cameron
So there we were in a camp site located just off interstate 84, it was basically a car park so not very pretty. Michael was struggling to sort out the black water in the RV, first time on the trip he had attempted to do this. Along walked a tall stranger wearing a stetson, offering advice and then taking over to Michael's gratitude. He then wondered what we thought of the RV site. We both said functional. He asked if we would prefer to have stayed somewhere more scenic - a no brainer. And mentioned his ranch, where he was considering opening up part for RV and camping, We said we thought it a good idea.
Our new found friend then mentioned his ranch currently supported pony treking and would we like to come and have a try. He gave us instructions on how to get there, and said he hoped to see us later.
We talked about it, then upped sticks to find said ranch, a few wrong turns later, and we arrived, the place was beautiful. As we got out of the RV we noticed a group was about to leave for a trek (already saddled), a welcome face thanked us for coming, asked a hand to fetch a couple more horses we saddled up, and away we went.
One small mishap, Denise's horse got itchy and was about to lie down and roll over, fortunately between her and one of the hands, her horse was disuaded. Other than that it was a pleasent way to spend a few hours enjoying the view. As it happened one of the instructers came from Ireland, and was making plans to get married back home. It was a lovely unplanned day.
