A long walk up the Champs Elysees

by Michael Cameron

This trip to Paris was in celebration of our 30th Wedding Anniversary, time does seem to move fast. We went to Paris on our honymoon back in 1984, we thought we would go back and revisit favourite places, but also see and do things we couldn't afford to do when just married. The weather was as good as it was the first time around.

Despite how hot it was we decided to walk up the Champs Elysees from the Louvre Museum to the Arc de Triomphe. We called into a few shops on the way, baulking at the prices. We of course had to stop at the Disney Shop.

We climbed the 284 steps (having skipped the queue with our skip the queue ticket) to the top, to be treated with a (in our opinion) better view of Paris than from the Eiffel Tower.

Looking up the Avenue de la Grande Armee we could see the skyline of Porte Maillot. Not having remembered being there before, we caught a Paris Metro to there and had a look around. Interesting enough, but missable.

That evening we made our way to the Eiffel Tower and enjoyed a wonderful meal in their restaurant. Not a particularly good view, all the window tables were taken, but still a lovely evening to finish of a full day. It was the 22nd June 2014, 30 years to the day we were married.
